    Sissoko returns to Serie A

Often during the madness of the January transfer window, a sense of nostalgia can hit fans as they hear one of their forgotten former players’ name involved in a big move.

This is especially true if it is a player who has left the Premier League and moved abroad, such is the case of Mohamed Sissoko.

Sky Sports reported that the former Liverpool midfielder has just joined Fiorentina on loan for the rest of the season, with the move including the possibility of an eventual sale from his parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

Sissoko enjoyed a successful two-and-a-half seasons at Anfield, playing an important part in the club winning the FA Cup in 2006.  He left the Reds in the January transfer window of 2008 to join Juventus, having previously turned down other offers from across Europe to stay on Merseyside.

Currently on international duty with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations, Sissoko returns to Italy after just a year-and-a-half in France, the country where he began his senior career with Auxerre.  His combined transfer fees from moves to Liverpool, Juventus and PSG add up to around £20 million, illustrating the significance of the signing of the defensive midfielder for every team he has played for.

Now seeing out the season in Florence, will Sissoko’s role prove just as impactful to earn him a permanent deal?
