      Simpson could be leaving Newcastle

As if he were Indiana Jones trapped inside the temple of Doom, Danny Simpson is being offered an  ‘escape route’ from Newcastle United by a host of clubs including Wigan Athletic, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion says the Daily Mail.

£5m French international Mathieu Debuchy has arrived at St. James Park this month and confined Simpson to a place on the bench – perhaps it is his irrational fear of splinters which necessitate an ‘escape route?’ – and with just six months left on his contract plenty of Premier League sides are interested.

A fee of just £500,000 should be enough to secure the right back’s services, and for a player who played an important part in the Magpies successful 2011/12 campaign the 26-year-old seems like something of a bargain. None of the three mentioned sides are particularly well endowed on the right side of defence and Wigan in particular with their wing back system could probably utilise Simpson’s overlapping runs from defence; good thing the Latic’s are apparently winning what is sure to be an ultra-competitive race for the Englishman’s signature.

Simpson will be glad of some media coverage that doesn’t involve his girlfriend’s cringe worthy performance on I’m a celebrity or claims that he couldn’t afford a chauffeur after picking up a driving ban at any rate.
