      Barcelona plot Vorm swoop

Another quick update from the goalkeeping merry-go-round which is set to take when Victor Valdes inevitably leaves the Nou Camp this summer. According to Talksport, Barcelona are targeting Swansea keeper Michel Vorm to replace him.

The site bill it as a ‘shock target’ but for those who have witnessed Vorm’s impressive displays since his move to the Premier League it is anything but. The Dutchman has established himself as one of the finest shot stoppers in the league and crucially for the Catalan side is one of the best distributors amongst the world’s top keepers. His footwork has launched many a Swansea attack over the past couple of seasons and this ability to play the ball out from the back should see him adapt well to life in at the world’s best passing side.

Talksport don’t mention any kind of fee being quoted for Vorm, but the Swans will certainly not want to let one of their prized assets go cheaply, despite only paying Utrecht £1.5m for the 29-year-old.

Perhaps more predictable names such as Pepe Reina and David De Gea have also been mentioned in conjunction with a move to Barca however a move for De Gea would represent a heavy risk for the Spanish giants. Undeniably the 22-year-old is a fine shot stopper, but his physicality and distribution have both been called into question during a relatively tough time in England. Reina on the other hand seems to be declining somewhat from the high standards he has set over the past few years. Errors have been commonplace this season and the Spaniard could struggle to cope with the pressure at Barcelona.
