Todorov wants to help fallen Pompey

They may be in a completely different situation from when he was last there, but one of Portsmouth’s former heroes could be about to help them out.

According to Sky Sports, Svetoslav Todorov has said that he would be willing to return to his former club should they desire his services.

The Bulgarian striker currently plays for Ukrainian Premier League club FC Hoverla Uzhhorod, leaving England in 2009 after a stint with Charlton Athletic.  Now 34 years old, Todorov first joined Pompey just over a decade ago.  Finishing as the league’s top scorer on 26 goals, he led them to the second division title in his first full season on the South Coast.

After such a successful campaign, serious injury hampered the rest of Todorov’s career at the club.  Initially causing him to miss Euro 2004, the impact it had at international level would become much worse, no better exemplified by the fact that he never played for his country again after eventually leaving Fratton Park.

Glimpses of his ability to find the net could be seen during a second spell at Litex Lovech, the last club Todorov played for before first moving to England, but ultimately his best memories will be of that season at Portsmouth.

As the man whose goals took them to the Premier League, would Pompey fans welcome the Bulgarian back with open arms?
