Mallorca could brighten up Hutton's year

Frozen out by Paul Lambert, Alan Hutton could see out the rest of the season in sunny Spain.

According to Sky Sports, the Aston Villa defender is wanted by Real Mallorca, who have made an approach to sign the Scotland international on loan.

The La Liga club finished eight last campaign, but they currently languish in the relegation places and are in need of reinforcements to help turn their season around.

Not the most glamorous acquisition by any means, Hutton would add experience to Mallorca’s team.  Whilst he has never played for a team from outside of the UK before, the defender has competed in the Champions League with both Rangers and Tottenham, playing an important part in Spurs reaching the quarter-final stage of the 2010-11 tournament.

Hutton has gained a reputation as being a tough tackler during his time in the Premier League, even having to defend himself against accusations of being a dirty player after a heavy challenge on West Brom’s Shane Long in 2011.  Should he move to La Liga, discipline will be vital if he is to avoid entering the referee’s book.

Having spent the last couple of months at Nottingham Forest, perhaps Hutton will welcome a change of scenery and opt for a fresh start in Spain.  However, despite being a popular holiday destination, Mallorca will provide no time to rest as Joaquin Caparros’ men look to avoid the drop.
