Rodgers to bid for Ashley Williams... in the summer

When Brendan Rodgers left the Liberty Stadium for Anfield, he made a vow not to approach any of his old charges... except Joe Allen. I'm kidding, that deal was triggered by a Spurs bid, allowing Rodgers to make his move. However, in light of the Swans' recent Captial One Cup success, Rodgers may well want to sign the man he made captain for the Reds. The Daily Mirror suggests that Rodgers is preparing a bid in the region of about £10 million for the central defender.

Ashley Williams has supposedly stated his preference for Liverpool over any other clubs if he were to leave Swansea, but he did sign a new three-year contract with his current employers just last October. Nothing fishy about a man stating his preference for another club while extending his contract. No sir. No siree. In any case, Rodgers is set to recieve competition from Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle for the Swansea skipper's signature.

I suppose it's admirable that Rodgers would vow to leave the ranks of his old club alone for a year, but he may well come back with a vengeance over the summer, making up for time lost perhaps. Laudrup, beware. The ex-boss is back. And he wants your best players.
