      QPR push for Odemwingie

QPR are once again demonstrating their remarkably short sighted approach to transfers with a move for the 31-year-old Peter Odemwingie. Rangers have had a £2.5m bid rejected already says the Mirror, and are preparing to up their bid.

Although Odewmwingie may not cost much up front, QPR are promising a further pay rise on the Nigerian’s already generous £40,000 a week wages  as well as a survival bonus and the added incentive of a 12 month extension if the Hoops stay up, by the end of which Odemwingie will be 33.

Of course if Odemwingie really is the missing piece of the puzzle who can fires Rangers to safety then the outlay will be justified, however between them Harry Redknapp and Mark Hughes have amassed a squad full of aging players on sky high wages, some of whom QPR are already desperate to shift, such as the unruly Jose Bosingwa.

Odemwingie is not a bad player, he has a decent goalscoring record for West Brom, but he is far from a world beater, and is probably not a better option than either Bobby Zamora or new signing Loic Remy. Indeed even Djibril Cisse has a fairly good scoring record and could offer much of what Odemwingie will bring, but Rangers have inexplicably let the French striker leave on loan for the remainder of the season despite being embroiled in a relegation dog fight.

QPR’s transfer policy continues to baffle. Whether they survive by the skin of their teeth or not I would hate to be then guy who has to organise next season’s contracts for their highly paid veterans.

Odemwingie is not interested in Championship football, the London press make this all up! QPR may have ritch owners but playing in front of 14,000 fans is no fun.
