    Hughton looks to Mackail-Smith again

Chris Hughton is no stranger to the Championship and it appears that he will again be looking to English football's second tier in January to strengthen his squad, with Brighton striker Craig Mackail-Smith his prime target, if the Daily Mail are believed.

It was reported that the ex Peterborough man was targeted unsuccessfully by Hughton in Summer and it is reported that the Norwich boss is still keen on the player.

Mackail-Smith has reached double figures for the Seagulls this term whilst Norwich's strikers have struggled for goals which would suggest that a move for the Brighton man would make sense. Adding further fuel to the speculation is the opinion that he would be a good fit for Norwich, given that the current system is largely based around the strengths of Grant Holt.

Holt though brings the argument against why Mackail-Smith would not be a good fit for Norwich, given that he has many similarities to the current Canaries hit-man, and it would be unlikely that Hughton would pair both together. Of course Holt is not getting any younger and Norwich currently have no cover for him, however it would seem a lot of money to spend on a player who would not always be considered a first team regular.

Without question The Carrow road side do need more goals from their forward men, and whilst Mackail-Smith could provide that, it would seem a bizarre move for Chris Hughton to make given that Holt is still such a prominent and successful figure in this Norwich team.
