AC Milan target Krul and Santon

As if the bombshell that Fabricio Coloccini was looking for a move back to Argentina wasn’t bad enough for Newcastle fans they’ve now been hit with the news that both goalkeeper Tim Krul and full-back Davide Santon are being targeted by AC Milan.
According to the Mirror AC Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti confirmed at the weekend that they are interested in Italian international Santon whilst the Italian giants are also known to be after a new long term keeper.
Milan’s current first choice keeper is the 35-year-old Christian Abiatti, who surely won’t be able to perform at the top level for much longer, whilst back up stopper Marco Amelia is no spring chicken at the age of 30 and not considered of high enough standard to be the Rossoneri's number one. This is apparently where Krul comes in. Although the Dutchman is under contract until 2017 Milan would be able to meet his £10m valuation and a move to a top Italian side with Champions League aspirations could certainly appeal to Krul over a relegation scrap on Tyneside.
Italian international Santon began his career at the San Siro for Inter Milan and could also be tempted back to Italy after Newcastle’s disappointing first half of the season. He has been constantly linked with a return to Serie A and it is believed that that such a move would improve his chances of nailing down a place in the national side.
The loss of two key players would leave the Magpies in even more of a mess than they currently find themselves. They have already lost top scorer Demba Ba to Chelsea for just £7m and have failed to replace him with the targeted Loic Remy who has opted for the tactical guidance offered by Harry Redknapp at QPR over a move to St James Park. Either that or the massive amount of cash, it’s hard to say. With several injuries to key players to also contend with Alan Pardew’s squad would begin to look even more stretched than in its current threadbare state and unless any funds made from Krul, Santon and Ba are reinvested wisely and hastily then another season of Championship football surely beckons for the Toon Army.
