Spurs pipped Arsenal to Belgian ace

Tottenham's Belgium international defender Jan Vertonghen says he chose to sign for the Lilywhites ahead of north London rivals Arsenal, despite the advice of Ajax assistant manager and ex-Gunners genius Dennis Bergkamp.

The Metro reports that Vertonghen chose Spurs following chats with Daniel Levy and Rafael Van der Vaart. Daniel Levy? Persuading someone to do anything? What did he do? Shower the Belgian with facts and figures about Tottenham's future earning revenue? Promise him a move to Manchester United within two years? 

As for Van der Vaart....has it slipped Vertonghen's notice that the Dutchman has now left the club? You never know with footballers.... *cue cliche on them not being the brightest*.
