      Adkins has room for more

It's been a bit of a quiet summer down by the coast for Southampton so far as the Premier League new boys have managed to bring in just four players, but Nigel Adkins has done his best to get a few sea-side pulses racing by suggesting he may be in for some extra arrivals.

The Saints have only managed to lay their hands on Steven Davis, Nathaniel Clyne, Jay Rodriguez and goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga so far in the transfer window, but the Southern Daily Echo has reported that there is acres of space in Adkins' squad, that can stretch to 25 men under Premier League rulings, for more signings.

This gap in the squad has been created by the manager heartlessly telling the trio of Lee Barnard, Ryan Dickson and Jonathon Forte could go elsewhere to find a place to play football.. not the local park, but another club.

Not only that, but Adkins himself has said that more business would be conducted before the Saints tackle the big, bad spectre of Manchester City on the opening day of the season but did not go into further detail.

He did make the smallest hint however that one player in question may be a defender, it's all so cryptic.
