      Newcastle cool de Jong interest

Newcastle United are believed to have cooled their interest in FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong.

The Magpies had been heavily linked with a move for the Dutch international, who netted 32 goals in all competitions last season.

The young front-man last month claimed he would be open to a move away from the Eredivisie side, but his preference was to remain in his homeland.

However, Newcastle were believed to have lodged a bid of around £9.6m for de Jong, with Twente believed to be holding out for more.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Monchengladbach had also shown an interest in the striker, but it is believed that Twente will hold onto their prized asset for next season.
