Allen able to leave for 'big five' club

This writer considers basic mathematics as a reliable skill in his arsenal for use; go the British educational system.

But after viewing a story about Swansea midfielder Joe Allen today, this writer has had to question his maths skills.

The Daily Mirror today reports that Allen has a clause in his contract that would allow him to join a 'top five' club which, strangely, has opened the door for Liverpool to sign up the player, despite the fact they finished 8th last season.

Anyway, semantics aside, the paper reports that the 22-year-old can sign for any 'big five' club for £15million.

The paper believes that the five clubs are Liverpool, Manchesters United and City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a known admirer of the Welshman after managing him for two seasons in South Wales and is keen on signing him despite a pledge not to raid his old club.

However, the Mirror also reports that Spurs are interested in the player and, as they are not mentioned in the contract clause, could pick up the midfielder for £10 million although the Swans are thought to be unlikely to want to sell.
