      What has Alberto done wrong?

Am I missing something? Do I just not 'get it? What has Alberto Aquilani done wrong?

Okay, so we all know that when Xabi Alsonso left Liverpool for Real Madrid in 2009, Rafa Benitez brought in Alberto Aquilani to replace him.

I remember watching a press conference when Benitez was asked what we could expect to see from Aquilani. His answer was short and decisive. “A better final ball than Xabi Alonso.”

Was he joking? Was he playing the media game? Or did he actually believe what he had said? Had he, in fact, brought a younger, ready made replacement for the Spanish pass master?

Sadly, three years on, it seems no body seems to want the man who Benitez spent nearly 20 million pounds on. Granted, he was injured when Benitez brought him but he has been injury free for some time now.

I just don't understand. Has he become such a bad player that he is not worth the 5 million pounds it would have cost AC Milan to secure his services on a permanent basis? Not even Juventus wanted him but then they have just gone the whole season unbeaten so...

I have seen him play many a times and this kid can play. He has what some experts refer to as a 'footballer's brain.' I can see the logic in that because I want my doctor to have a 'doctor's brain.' I would not take kindly to being prescribed medicine by a man (or woman for that matter) who posses as my doctor but has the brain of an artist.

This footballing brain allows Aquilani to see a pass before his opponents and that is a much sought after quality in a play maker. So why does no body want him? Surely his injury plagued days are over. How unwanted must he be feeling right now?

It just seems like a perfect fit. Aquilani's eye for a pass and Brendan Rogers promised possession game seems to go hand in hand. And after being away for 2 seasons, Aquilani can be presented as a new signing.

But will Rogers want the undesirable?

Does he look like a bad player?
