      Johnson a wanted man.

It hasn't been the happiest of times for Adam Johnson at Manchester City, edged onto the periphery of the title-winning squad to the extent that he is almost a forgotten man, and jettisoned from the England Euro 2012 squad, yet it is looking like at least one club may be on hand to pluck him from his Etihad hell.

Liverpool are the latest club to be linked to the 24 year old right-winger through website Caughtoffside.com, as Brendan Rodgers sees Johnson as the prime target to kick-start a summer of spending as he aims to usher in a bright new era at Anfield.

This comes after Manchester City reportedly signalled their intent back in April to finally sell the winger after the majority of his season was spent warming the bench.

The Daily Mail say that the insanely oil-rich title-winners are asking what seems to them pittance, at £10 million, which would rule the likes of Everton out of the race for his signature.

Sunderland have been linked with an enquiry for the star who has 11 England caps, as they prepare to lose Kieran Richardson in this transfer window, but Johnson's huge weekly wages, standing at £50,000, may also be an issue for the Black Cats.

The Metro have also linked Newcastle to the ex-Middlesbrough midfielder whilst suggesting a loan move could be the cheapest option all-round for a few clubs as Manchester City would subsidise his wages.

However, it is looking like Liverpool may be at the forefront of the queue for Johnson as new manager Rodgers is believed to be preparing a £16 million bid for the neglected City man, who was only allowed to start 10 Premier League matches last term.

"... his Etihad hell." That will be the same hell he happily signed a new contract at last November. There is a reason he has not started as many games as he would like, and that his he has been slow to pick up on Bobby's wisdom, and learn from his teaching. He would certainly be a good addition to Liverpool, as he's a LOT better that Downing but he will have to say bye bye to medals and glory in exchange for a few more appearances.
