Pearce Wants To See New Faces

New Leeds defender Jason Pearce hopes he isn’t the only new face through the door at Elland Road this summer as manager Neil Warnock looks to put a stamp on his squad during the off season.

Warnock made Pearce his first transfer of the window from cash strapped Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £500,000 for the defender.

Yorkshireman Neil Warnock has been a known admirer of Pearce for some time having made attempts to sign 24 year old for QPR and for Leeds in a loan deal in March of last season.

Midway through last season Pearce was made captain of Portsmouth, following Liam Lawrence’s loan move to Cardiff. Pearce made 43 league appearances scoring 2 goals. Pearce’s commitment to the sinking ship at Portsmouth didn’t go unnoticed by the fans receiving 7 out of 9 supporters’ awards including Player of the Season.

United were expecting Joel Ward, a former Pompey team-mate of Pearce, to be signing with them but instead he opted to move to Crystal Palace. There were rumours Leeds couldn’t find the £400,000 transfer fee, news that wouldn’t be pleasing to Jason Pearce’s ears.

Much like Leeds United fans their latest acquisition has been keeping an eye on transfer activity at his new club, “I do have a look on the Sky Sports website to see if anything is happening.”

“I was obviously the first one to come in and I would hope to see a few more before the start of pre-season”, Pearce told Yorkshire Radio.

Warnock will be hoping the addition of Pearce, and any other signings he can make, to his squad will push for promotion next season.
