Eddie Told Howe To Spend

Burnley boss Eddie Howe will be given a portion of the fee accrued from the sale of Jay Rodriguez to Southampton to invest in new players this summer. The 22 year old striker that scored 21 goals last season finalised a move to the Premier League with newly promoted Southampton earlier in the week for a club undisclosed record fee, thought to be in the region of £7 million.
Rodriguez’s goal scoring last season was a vital part of the side and now leaves Eddie Howe with a big hole to fill in his striking options.
The Lancashire club announced a £4 million shortfall for the last financial year and Howe doesn’t expect to receive Rodriguez’s entire transfer fee but hopes to see some part for reinvestment into the squad.
"It won't be millions and millions, but it will be a percentage and we will have to spend it wisely," Howe told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"Some will have to go back into the accounts to make sure the club is strong for years to come.
"With Danny Ings, Charlie Austin and Martin Paterson we have three very good centre forwards left at the club.
"Hopefully all three lads will report back fit and ready to go for the new season and hopefully we can add one more."
Ings, Austin and Paterson contributed 26 goals last season, 20 coming from Charlie Austin. The Clarets will definitely need more goals if they harbour hopes of pushing for a playoff spot, Eddie Howe will need to do some shrewd business.
