Blues to Rob United of Lewandowski

Chelsea are hoping to snatch Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski from under the noses of Manchester United.

The Poland international is believed to be close to a switch to Old Trafford, after head coach Franciszek Smuda claimed he would be joining the Manchester outfit.

However, Roman Abramovich is believed to making a personal check on the 23-year-old when Poland come up against Russia on Tuesday night.

The Blues are keen on adding another target man to the ranks following the departure of influential front-man Didier Drogba.

And Abramovich feels Lewandowski is the man to replace the powerful Ivorian and would’ve been impressed with his goal in the Euro 2012 opener against Greece.

The move is unlikely to deter United as they look to revamp their front-line following the release of Michael Owen and the inevitable exit of Dimitar Berbatov.
