King's reign to last a little while longer

If it weren't for injury, we may well be talking about Ledley King in the same breath as John Terry and Rio Ferdinand as some of the best English Premier League centre backs, unfortunately injuries have played a major role in halting his career, and so the Londoner isn't a part of that list.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown faith in him, though, by offering him a 1 year pay as you play contract with the option of another year if he plays a certain number of matches.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy could even offer him a non playing role at White Hart Lane when he retires according to The Mirror.

Introducing defensive stability seems to be top of Harry Redknapp's to do list over the summer, as Steven Caulker looks set to return from a loan spell at Swansea, whilst Jan Vertonghen is expected to sign from Dutch champions, Ajax.

The North Londoner's are also looking to offer a new contract to Welsh wing wizard, Gareth Bale, to fend off interest from Barcelona.

King made 23 appearances for Spurs last season.

He doesn't want to be on a list that includes John Terry anyway. Caulker and Vertonghen in and Bassong and Nelson out would be a sensible move. Don't very often get sensible though at Tottenham
