Torres apologises for rocking the Bridge

Last week, upset and angry, this week, upbeat and positive. A strange week in the emotions of Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard yesterday revealed that a pep talk from Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's billionaire owner, has convinced him to prolong his career at Stamford Bridge.

A bit part player for, what was, a trophy laden campaign with the FA Cup and Champions League arriving in SW6, the 28 year old admitted being frustrated at his role and hinted that he could be set for the exit door.

Like Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez before him, Torres has since backtracked from criticising his parent club, and talks with the Russian oilgarch have convinced him that his future is secure according to Sky Sports.

The striker, who was prolific at Liverpool, said: 'I had a conversation with the owner of Chelsea and he trusts me.

'His confidence is total and that is what I needed to keep fighting and continue to be essential for the team.'

Torres has, this week, been called up to Spain squad for Euro 2012; something that many didn't expect when he was left off the roster for the game against Venezuela in February.

An injury to the clinical David Villa gave the Chelsea number gave the Chelsea number 9 the opportunity, one is ready to seize.

'I was left out of the squad and that was tough.

'I started to understand that things were serious, that I wasn't getting much playing time with my club and that if things carried on that way, I wouldn't be going to Euro 2012.

'Vincente has put his faith in me and now I need to show him I am ready to play whenever he thinks it necessary. I hope to be able to give the team the best of me.'
