    Pearson's financial fair play concerns

The big, scary shadow of the looming implementation of UEFA’s financial fair play rules (damn their egalitarianism and so on) looks set to claim its first notable Championship-level victim with news that Leicester City are planning a mass summer clear out.

Leicester, bankrolled by the laughably broad-named Asian Football Investments (who’s money mainly comes from Thailand billionaires which is only a tiny little bit of Asia, or so my globe tells me), have spent big since the takeover in 2010 in an attempt to get out of the Championship. Through the metaphorical roof rather than basement it should be noted.

However, after missing out on promotion this season, the Foxes need to dramatically cut their wage bill to fall in line with the new UEFA regulations. Already, one-time next big thing (who has gone on to become a different kind of ‘big’ thing) Michael Johnson has returned to Manchester City after the conclusion of his loan deal.

High earners at the club could face an uncertain summer as the manager Nigel Pearson and board members plot the club’s future.

Strangely, the club are still rumoured to be willing to spend big this summer so long as the wage bill is cut before going shopping for new faces.

Pearson told the Daily Mirror; "I am very clear in my mind how we move forward and what is needed. I know how I want to shape the squad for next season. Our approach needs to be altered somewhat with financial fair play."
