Villa could pounch for Dutch 'Peter Crouch'

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Herenveen forward Bas Dost for £7m in a bid to strengthen their squad after enduring a disappointing campaign.

With Villa slumped a lowly 15th after playing 29 matches, they need to show presence once the summer transfer market opens up, and Bas Dost will certainly provide plenty of presence because at 6ft 5inches he’s dubbed the Dutch Peter Crouch.

The striker has netted 23 times this term enough to make him the Eredivisie’s leading scorer, however the Villians may have to fend off interest from Spanish giants Valencia who are also said to be interested.

With top scorer Darren Bent out for the remainder of the campaign, a daunting injury list and Agbonlahor the sides second highest scorer with just six goals to his name, their goal scoring problem could be solved by the addition of Bas Dost who appears open to a switch.

"I have heard about the interest from Aston Villa and it is very flattering and nice.” Said Bas Dost

"I have been aware of it for some time and I know that Aston Villa are not having a good season but it still looks a good move.

"I spoke with my agent and we have discussed the matter but there has been no further contact and I have to wait. I cannot say any more but maybe there will be developments."

The news the player appears interested in Villa can only be good for the club, whose manager Alex McCleish, has already stated the squad needs to be strengthened in the summer.
