Future’s orange for Fowler

In the season of comebacks, Scholes, Henry, Robbie Keane, the Stone Roses, Madonna (again), nothing should really surprise you when another name emerges from the woodwork and back into the public radar. The latest on the list is, rather shockingly, Robbie Fowler and news of him training with Blackpool.
Blackpool have announced through their Twitter account that the 35 year old ex-Liverpool goal-machine Fowler is training with the Tangerines with a view of securing a permanent deal, and an OAP bus pass, in the summer.
Fowler has been playing footer in the exotic shores of Thailand and the chilled reaches of Australia, but shrimp barbeques and baby Dingo’s obviously can’t compete with the Golden Mile of Blackpool as he encroaches on a return to English football.
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway revealed in a press conference that Fowler has impressed in his short training spell and is close to full fitness, but according to the club, Friday’s game with Hull City will come too early for Fowler, despite reports to the contrary.
His age should be no barrier to his time at Blackpool, as he joins fellow granddads 38 year old Kevin Phillips and 35 year old Brett Ormerod in the care home section of Blackpool’s training facilities. He has been welcomed by his team-mates already though, with Gary Taylor-Fletcher referring to him as “God” and a “legend” through that ever-so-popular medium of Twitter.
The clinical Fowler, who has hit 185 goals in a career spanning 19 years, was set to add a new chapter in a new Premier League Soccer in India before logistic issues saw a postponement in February.
However, Blackpool noticed it and leaped like a Kangaroo to check the services of the former Perth Glory striker and if he still possesses half of the goal scoring ability he showed in his young age, where he became the Premier League’s fourth highest scorer with 163, it will be a massive coup for Holloway’s Tangerines.
Almost as massive as it is a comeback.
