      Brent the realist

Fans of hit BBC drama The Office will know that character David Brent always fancied himself as a bit of an entertainer; a rebel, a renegade, something better than his meaningless administration job suggested.

Yet down in Devon, another Brent, this time Plymouth Argyle owner Jams Brent, has his feet firmly on the ground and isn't harbouring greater plans.

It wouldn't have been as proposterous as it may sound these days to suggest that The Pilgrims could have been a Premier League club less than half a decade ago.

Argyle were rolling ahead with their five year plan to hit the big time until disaster struck and the club went into meltdown from a footballing and financial perspective.

They now find themselves perilously close to non-league football and Brent knows now is not time to dream ahead despite their recent upturn in form-

"We're not going to believe we're too big to be in the Conference because if we don't win sufficient games that is where we'll go," Brent told Press Association Sport.

"We will manage the business if that eventuality happens.

"We're being cautious, not because we're aspiring to end up in the Conference but because we're not going to repeat yesterday's mistakes tomorrow."

So like Ricky Gervais's alter ego once said- 'Know your limitations and be content with them. Too much ambition results in promotion to a job you can't do.'

Freakingly relevant to The Green Army's plight I think you'll agree, and that is coming from a British sitcom. Though some would say the managing of Plymouth has become something of a laughing stock.
