      Clark moves across the county?

The managerial merry-go-round looks like it won’t stop anytime soon as reports are emerging that Lee Clark has left his post at Huddersfield.

Sky Sports have reported that Clark has left Huddersfield after three games without a win, culminating in last night’s defeat to Sheffield United at the Galpharm to leave them fourth in League One, leaving him free to make the short move across Yorkshire to take over the vacant post at Leeds United.

Many bookmakers had him down as a front-runner for the vacancy at Wolverhampton Wanderers left behind by Monday’s dismissal of Mick McCarthy, but it looks like Leeds and the league above will be the more logical choice for the 39 year old ex-Newcastle star, who is still a relatively young-pup in this cut-throat managerial business.

He has managed to make a name for himself though in League One as the Terriers, led by Jordan Rhodes whose form has been hotter than a tea-kettle at some stages of his 62 in 108 game strike-rate, embarked on an unbeaten run of 43 games which stretched into November of this season.

There was always a sense of disappointment, despite the financial support of Chairman Dean Hoyle, at losing to Stevenage in last year’s play-off final though and Clark may have seen this as a chance to move up the ladder rather than wait to do it with his club.

The Daily Mail has reported this surprising turn-of-events as the cue for him to join Leeds, but only Clark will know why he would want to be handicapped by Ken Bates’ purse-strings that remain as tight as a Swiss bank vault.

Reports are deviating between a sacking and mutual concession of contract, but the former would be a travesty considering the phenomenal job he did with the Terriers in going eleven months without a loss in domestic competition and leaving them right in the mix for promotion to the Championship again this season.

In fact, any reason of departure would be a travesty for Huddersfield fans as they would not like to lose Clark, but it does seem that he will be Leeds’ gain in the near future.
