Imperial plans as Big Apple comes to Rotherham

The New York Gia....sorry Rotherham United are a club on the up. The League Two side are just months away from their move into a new 25,000 seater stadium.

For the past three seasons, Empire Stadiums, the company responsible for Swansea's ground, have undergone the task of managing the piece of architecture as it takes shape.

Yet it is the name being given that seems to have created the most controversy and debate, with the club choosing to call it 'The New York Stadium', and no that is not a mis-print.

The powers that be have decided to pay homage to the heritage of the town by giving the ground the same historic name of the area it is based in.

This is all well and good, I mean, few football supporters will argue that there is nothing worst than a ground with a sponsorship name (hello there Newcastle fans), but from an outsiders point of view, naming your stadia after one of the world's most famous cities does appear to be a little ill-judged.

It will make perfect sense for those that take the time to read about it, but most fans will just look at the name and let out an almighty cringe.
