Hammers look to Chamakh to halt goal shortage

The Metro are indicating that West Ham look set to do battle with Inter Milan for the services of goal shy Marounae Chamakh. Its no secret that the Hammers are struggling for goals this season with not one of their current strikers contributing more than two league goals so its no shock to see Big Sam looking to bolster his forward line. Chamakh however is hardly a name who you would have had the top of a list of players to solve your goal scoring issues, given that he has barely scored a league goal over the last two seasons.

To be fair to Chamakh he has hardly been given ample opportunities in recent times, although when Arsene Wenger has started the Moroccan he has largely been rewarded by nothing more than abject displays. When Chamakh was signed by Arsenal he was perceived as a player who could give the Gunners something different, providing them with a more physical presence up top. Unfortunately after a bright start things turned sour very quickly and it now looks like Wenger is willing to lose the ex Bordeaux hit man.

Given Chamakh's rather uninspired record it would not be a signing to fill supporters with confidence, however West Ham would at least play a little more to his strengths whilst starts should also come regularly meaning he could finally get a consistent run together. There is no doubting that Chamakh would be a gamble signing, after all he has only ever reached double figures twice in a season however there must be something in him that caused Arsenal to sign him and that something is what Allardyce will be looking to unearth.
