Jol wants Stekelenburg reunion

The Daily Mirror reports that Martin Jol wants to bring Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg to Fulham.
Jol knows the giant keeper well from his time at Ajax where he first established him in the first team. Stekelenburg moved to Roma in 2011 but has recently lost his place In the first team thanks to a string of impressive performances from Uruguayan Mauro Goicoechea.
The 30-year-old was one of Europe’s hottest properties last year when he chose to join Italian giants Rom however he will be desperate to return to first team football as soon as possible in order to keep his place in the Dutch national side especially with Premier League stars Tim Krul and Michaele Vorm impressing so much in England last season. Stekelenburg could therefore be available in a cut price deal and at 30 is a whole decade younger than Fulham’s veteran stopper Mark Schwarzer who surely cannot have long left playing at the top level.
According to the mirror former England number one Paul Robinson is also being targeted by Fulham. The former spurs keeper has found himself unwanted by championship Blackburn and would surely jump at the chance of a return to top flight football. However even if Jol is not able to snap up Stekelenburg in January he would be mad to chase the 33-year-old Robinson, who has been unimpressive in recent seasons and hardly represents a long term solution to the cottagers number one position.
