Argentine ace on Liverpool's radar?

One thing is for certain, Liverpool need players.
The Reds' 0-0 draw at Swansea saw them line up with Stewart Downing at left-back and Jose Enrique on the left-wing, a rather ironic move from Brendan Rodgers seen as of course, Kenny Daglish paid Aston Villa near-on £20 million (surely Randy Learner's most astute piece of business at Villa Park) for Downing to be the wideman and Enrique to be the defender.
If that alone wasn't a sign of Liverpool's dire need of new recruits, then perhaps it was also the sight of a rather robotic looking Joe Cole stumble onto the pitch for Raheem Sterling. Joe Cole? Remember him.
Thus, the Metro today are reporting that the Merseysiders are battling Stoke for the signing of Lazio frontman Maruo Zarate. If that name seems familiar to you, it's because he once had an exciting spell on loan at Birmingham in 2008, where despite four goals in 14 appearances, he was unable to halt their slide towards relegation into the Championship.
Certainly, if he can shine as a creative force in a side managed by Alex McLeish, one would imagine that under Brendan Rodgers and a "philosophy" that preaches inspiration and free-flowing attacking football, the little Argentinian would certainly flourish far more than at the Britannia!
