Martinez takes punt on Oman striker

Over the last few years, Wigan have made a habit of picking up archetypal 'diamonds in the rough' from the far-flung corners of the football world.

It is a massive credit to the scouting system at the club to look at some of the players have come through the doors of the DW Stadium; Antonio Valencia and Wilson Palacios to name but two.

According to the Daily Mail, Roberto Martinez is now looking at another player who he hopes can add to the increasingly prestigious Wigan finishing school.

The paper reports that the club have taken Oman international striker Eid Al Farsi on a week-long trial period.

The 25-year-old impressed Martinez during his country's defeat to the Republic of Ireland at Craven Cottage last month and he is now taking a punt on the striker.

Al Farsi has a fellow Omanian to keep him company at Wigan in the shape of goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.
