Sunderland have McFadden for brief spell

Former Birmingham and Everton player James McFadden has completed a short three-month deal with Sunderland.

The deal had been agreed on Friday and Black Cats boss Martin O’Neill has been a long time admirer of McFadden’s ability. The Sunderland boss stated that the deal gives McFadden the chance to improve his fitness again and to get use to playing some game time. O’Neill tried to sign McFadden way back when he was Celtic manager and when the Scottish forward was playing for Motherwell.

At the start of this season McFadden was a free agent after being released by Birmingham and he had the tough job like so many other free agents of keeping fit and training on his own in hope of finding a new club.

Now that McFadden has succeeded in this he will no doubt be excited about the future at his new club. He brings experience to the Stadium of Light having being capped 48 times for Scotland. The new signing won’t be included into the squad for the trip to Stoke this Saturday as it will allow him to train with the squad a bit more before being put into match action.
