Sunderland poised to sign free agent McFadden

Sunderland are all but set to sign to sign James McFadden following his release by Everton over the summer, the Daily Mirror is reporting. The 29-year-old has been training with the Black Cats and is allowed to move around the transfer window as he is a free agent.

McFadden has since done enough to impress manager Martin O’Neill, with the Northern Irishman keen to add experience to his squad. The former Motherwell and Birmingham City star packs that in abundance have made more than 150 Premier League appearances and 48 international caps.

Sunderland significantly bolstered their attacking line with the acquisition of Steven Fletcher this summer, who has netted five goals in his first five games in all competitions. The signing of McFadden will add competition to O’Neill’s front-line.
