10 players who could be on Hodgson's mind

While I, along with many others I’m sure, was generally happy with the England squad, there were some inclusions, and exceptions that I was surprised about.

Was the International period a success for England? (VIDEO)

Domestic football had taken a break for a week and half and was replaced with a couple of international fixtures for each nation. For England it was a chance to pick up six points and six points they were capable of getting.

What is England’s best central-defensive partnership?

With John Terry now consigned to international retirement, the debate rages on as to who should Roy Hodgson turn to at the heart of his side’s defence as he begins to plot England’s route to success at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, should they qualify.

Is Jermain Defoe the unluckiest English striker?

When the team news filtered through that Danny Welbeck would be partnering Wayne Rooney at the expense of Jermain Defoe against San Marino, the logic of the move was apparent. Against an outfit that would offer no space for England’s attackers, Roy Hodgson preferred the movement of Welbeck to in theory, stretch the opposition into places they would hitherto be unwilling to go to, rather than the more static Defoe.

    The Top 10 England goalscorers

With England preparing to take on San Marino as they continue their road to Brazil 2014, Roy Hodgson’s strikers will be licking their lips at the prospect of adding to their tallies against according to the Fifa World Rankings, the worst team in the world.

So with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe and Danny Welbeck sure to have ample goalscoring opportunities, we look back at the Top 10 England scorers.

Can Michael Carrick be an option for England in central-defence? (Video)

When it was first mooted by Roy Hodgson it was at first more or less ignored and those who heard it, will not have had the most welcoming of receptions to the idea. However, if you look beyond the face-value, could Michael Carrick actually be a realistic option in central-defence as England adapts to life after John Terry?

The tube has came to a Holt

Roy Hodgson wasn’t exactly first choice elect for the England job when he was appointed earlier on this year before the Euros. Everyone wanted cheeky chappy Harry Redknapp, an Englishman who would hopefully lead his country to a tournament victory like Sir Alf Ramsey did all those years ago.

Hodgson left to deal with the difficult basics of a very complicated case

On Sunday, football again utilised its power to be a relentless provider of headlines; if the highly emotive game between Liverpool and Manchester United or the enthralling battle between Manchester City and Arsenal were not enough to stew over in the evening down-time before most reverted to the weekly grind, John Terry, as if he couldn’t bear to be marginalised by the day’s events, threw his own name into the desperate competition for space of Monday’s back-pages with a decision to retire from international football.

    It’s not Terry’s….It’s?

John Terry had called time on his England career after 78 caps for the national side, deeming his place in the squad as untenable after recent racial allegations were made against him. The former England captain has had a very up and down career for the Three Lions, but who is likely to step up and take his place in Brazil in 2014?

Starvation of English talent has led to Owen media circus (Video)

Michael Owen is certainly no longer considered in the prime of his career as a 32 year old striker who has been plagued by injuries in recent years. However back in the day Owen was good. He was very, very good.

Too early for Rio 2014 predictions? Never!

As England prepare to face Ukraine in their second World Cup 2014 qualifier, let’s take this opportunity to predict who will knock England out in Rio two years from now. I jest, of course, but every major tournament brings with it so much promise for the Three Lions and every time it seems we are eliminated in increasingly spectacular fashion. Hammered by the Germans in South Africa, Pirloed a couple of months ago, the infamous Rooney balls stamp of2006 and Beckham’s red card in 1998.

England’s Under 21s Book Top Seed For Euro 2013

Stuart Pearce and his Under-21 side booked themselves a favourable draw for the Euro2013 playoffs on Friday, despite the lack of starlets such as Oxlade-Chamberlain, Butland, and Kyle Walker, who have all been on full England duty.

Taking a cap off to Russia's solid start (Video)

On a night where Roy Hodgson's three lions roared to a 5-0 win over Moldova in the opening round of the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, Hodgson's predecessor also enjoyed a productive victory to kick start Russia's qualifying campaign.

Why England can be a force at Brazil 2014 and prove Charlton wrong

So England’s record goalscorer and national treasure Sir Bobby Charlton believes there is no chance of England’s current side winning or even competing for trophies in the near future and certainly not at the next World Cup in Brazil. His assertion that England “havent got a lot of top-quality players” meaning that “you cannot see it happening in Brazil at the next World Cup” has caused quite a reaction, with many leaping to back up the 1966 World Cup winners’ claims.
