Manchester United to finish second, again!

Having missed out on the title in such dramatic circumstances last year, Manchester United will be more determined than ever to win the Barclays Premier League. Summer additions of Nick Powell, Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie mean that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will be there or there abouts again.

    Adebayor and that celebration (Video)

Both sides have eight points from their opening four games and despite only one of these sides being tipped for the title, the battle at the Ethiad Stadium will be a close one, much like the two from last season, with both Manchester City and Arsenal securing 1-0 home wins.

How things have changed since my first live football match

Nearly 12 years ago the arrival of my birthday saw me awarded with a trip to Highbury for my first ever live football match to see Arsenal take on Leicester City on Boxing Day, 2000. Today, as I prepare to head to the Emirates Stadium to see the Gunners try and continue their unbeaten start to the season at home to bottom of the table and pointless Southampton, I think about all the things that have changed about my routine when going to football matches.

Will Arsene Wenger sign a new contract at Arsenal?

Despite Arsene Wenger’s protestations that there have been no contract extension talks as of yet, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis’ comments this week suggest that an offer to the 62 year old Frenchman to extend his spell in charge at the Emirates beyond 2014 is imminent.

    Dutch Maestro or Sick Note?

So far this season to the delight of Manchester United and to the dismay of Arsenal fans, Robin Van Persie has had a blinding start to the new premier league.  His hat trick at the weekend seemed almost unimpressive by his standards, as he will surely be wondering why he didn’t just demolish the net with his penalty as opposed to attempting to tickle the ball cutely into the goal.  No doubt he will already be many fans hot favourite to etch his name onto the golden boot this season, but is this a wise prediction?

Three things we learned from Round One of the Premier League

The Premier League burst back into action with a blaze of goals (although nobody seemed to tell the Emirates) and amidst all the hype and in particular Martin Tyler referring to "that" QPR game and commentary on May 13th, a number of interesting points emerged:

Santi Cazorla –Exactly What Arsenal Have Been Missing

For me there was no great surprise in seeing Arsenal sign a small, creative midfield player, but I was very surprised to see them sign Santi Cazorla – who at around £16m may be Arsenal’s record transfer, but is still in my opinion an absolute steal.

Arsenal fans; Losing Robin van Persie isn’t all that bad

Why selling Robin Van Persie to Man Utd would confirm Arsenal’s regression

It has, by and large, been a successful summer thus far for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. The Gunners’ lack of striking depth appears to have been solved by the additions of vastly experienced international forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, while almost everyone appears in agreement that the signing of Spanish midfield schemer Santi Cazorla is a superb one.
