Cassano deserves as much praise as Pirlo and co.

Italy should begin every tournament on the back-end of a domestic scandal.
Italy should begin every tournament on the back-end of a domestic scandal.
It was, perhaps, the result many hadn’t expected after Italy swept tournament favourites Germany to one side to secure a place in the final of Euro 2012.
The limited number of teams in the European Championships (for now) not only guarantees some quality but it also means that teams with a lot of history, and ergo rivalry, meet up quite often.
And so it comes to this; yet another major international tournament with Italy in disarray and controversy being the order of the day.
As publishers begin to put the finishing touches to their Euro 2012 guides, there is no doubt Spain and Germany will enjoy the lion’s share of tournament winner predictions, with the self-harming but extremely talented Dutch team also gaining a few mentions. One side that finds itself drifting away with the also-rans of the competition is Cesar Prandelli’s rejuvenated Italy.
The international friendly…managers despise them, fans frown upon them, the very mention of them is enough to turn the air blue.
