Liverpool Centre-Back Targeted By Galatasaray - Why Brendan Rodgers Must Handle The Defender's Future Carefully

As Dejan Lovren tells Southampton is head is already at Anfield, one Liverpool defender could be on his way out of the club.  The Mirror are reporting that Galatasaray are prepared to offer Martin Skrtel a big-money contract in order to lure the centre-back to the Super Lig.

Any move to the Turkey could only come about if the sides agree a fee for the player, who still has two years left on his current deal with the Reds. The 29-year-old largely impressed as Liverpool finished runners up in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals along the way.

As a Slovakia international with six-and-a-half years’ experience of playing in England’s top flight, it is understandable why Galatasaray would want Skrtel.  Whether Brendan Rodgers would be willing to let him leave, however, is another matter.

Fellow Reds centre-back Daniel Agger has also been linked with a move away after a season in which he perhaps did not feature as much as he would have liked.  Although Lovren looks set for a switch to Anfield, it is unlikely Liverpool would sell both players without getting quality replacements in first.

Last season saw Liverpool concede more Premier League goals than 11th-placed Crystal Palace, and only one and three fewer than West Ham and Hull respectively.  With Brendan Rodgers’ side definitely looking to improve defensively next campaign, it will be interesting to see how the situation regarding their backline develops.
