Drogba Set For Chelsea Return - Why The Striker Could Struggle To Better His Last Game For The Blues

Players come and go in football.  Sometimes they even come back.  Returns can be low-key, especially if it is just a former right-back rejoining to provide a bit of cover.  A club being reunited with a striker who scored 157 goals for them, however, is a completely different story.  Chelsea are the lucky side to be linked with such a real-life fairy tale.

Thierry Henry rejoined Arsenal on loan in 2012 and, despite the forward not playing at the same level as when he left for Barcelona, being such a legend made Gunners fans just happy to have him back.  It was not as if he was just at the Emirates to make up the numbers either, as having been such an incredible player in his day meant the Frenchman could still more than cut it in the Premier League.

According to the Guardian, Didier Drogba is to make his return to Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign.  The Ivorian has spent the last 18 months with Galatasaray after a brief spell in China, and as his contract with the Turkish side has come to an end he is now free to choose where he wants to play next season.

After representing his country at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Drogba is reportedly set to sign a one-year contract with his former club which includes a coaching role for when he retires.  Scoring the penalty that enabled them to lift the European Cup in his very last act for the Blues, it will be interesting to see how a potential return could affect his legacy.
