Jose Mourinho Could Have A Future Star On His Hands - Why Chelsea Youngster Deserves A Chance In The First Team

Chelsea signed 20-year-old Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest for £1.5 million in 2012 and he is, in my opinion, one of the Blues' best young talents. He has not played for the first team but has played for the reserves, as well as having loan spells at MK Dons and Derby County.

The young forward had an extremely impressive loan spell at MK Dons, scoring 18 goals in 37 league games. I saw him play against Leyton Orient last season and he was quite simply the best player on the pitch. He is certainly one of the finest finishers that League One has seen, although some may say that division is nowhere near the standard of the Premier League and he needs to prove himself at a higher level.

After his loan spell at MK Dons, Bamford did then take it to the next step, as he was loaned out to promotion-chasing Derby County in the Championship. He had a very productive spell with the Rams, scoring eight goals in 21 league games.

I think that Bamford has all of the attributes to be a world class player. As mentioned, his finishing is first class, his ball control is superb, he has great pace, and something that League One and Championship defenders could not handle was his dribbling. He has very close ball control when moving with the ball, making it very difficult to steal possession from him.

I think that the 20-year-old deserves a chance in the Premier League with Chelsea, as it is pointless to just keep loaning him out to lower leagues. The youngster has done the job in those leagues and so he deserves his chance, even if he gets 20 minutes off the bench every few games to get him used to the feeling of playing that standard of football. I think that if Bamford is given his chance he will impress and he could be one of the best strikers in the world in a few seasons time. That may be a bold statement, but watch this space.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, best striker in the world, quite simply the funniest thing to be written yet :)

How do you know if he isn't given the chance?

It still mystifies most Forest fans why Bamford was not given a chance while he was at Forest. He was scoring for fun in the "development team" and the first team hadn't scored at all for 7 or 8 games yet Cotterill never gave him a chance. I agree with the writer - what's the point of the big boys hovering up all this talent if its never given a chance in the PL? All strikers have to start somewhere so I don't see the point of the derision in the other comment.

I do confess to an ulterior motive though - if Bamford is playing for Chelsea then he won't be loaned to McClown at Derby again....

Thanks, yes I think the only way they can see if en is good enough is to try him out even if it's in the league cup or fa cup to start with.

Bamford is too idle to be a top Premiiership player.
For that idiot Forest moaer, just realise that it w as McClaren who was the only Red manager to play Bamford in the first team at that debt ridden club.
Get real my friend...Forest are no longer managed by Sir Brian, the guy you ac qui red from the Rams!!

Well chelsea paid 1.5 million for him so what's the point if they won't give him his chance?

Bamford seemed to start well under Derby, but never really established himself in the first team. He needs more time in the Championship or with a lower Premier club before he's ready for the Chelsea first team.

And just for accuracy: Bamford never played a competitive game under McLaren at Forest. He got a couple of 5 minute run outs under Cotterill as a wide man & looked out of his depth.

Oh & I like the way you spelt out acquired with spaces. It's like you read it out phonetically to yourself as you typed it. You should show that to your school teacher - you might get a gold star.

I think a lower league premier team would be most beneficial to him if he has to be loaned out

He will never get a chance at Chelsea he's a low Prem team player at most

Tommy, sorry to disappoint you with the spacing of acquired. Don't be so pathetic though and for your information I can not control how this site reacts to what is actually keyed.
The fact remains....Bamford did not justify his great 'I am' reputation at Derby and I doubt he will ever reach even average Premiership standard.

Because clubs like Chelsea don't like giving youth a chance? Hardly the boys fault
