Liverpool Remain Active In The Transfer Market - Why The Reds Could Add Another Striker To Their Ranks

With Luis Suarez set to miss the start of next season, Liverpool could well be looking to the future regarding their striker department.  The Uruguayan has been at the centre of yet more controversy after he bit Giorgio Chiellini in his side’s World Cup group game against Italy.  After such a huge incident, especially with this not being the first time the 27-year-old has disgraced himself, there is always the chance the Reds could look to sell him.  Although Daniel Sturridge is hot and firing and Rickie Lambert recently arrived from Southampton, the latter’s age could leave the club completely dependent on the former in a couple of years’ time.

This may be why, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Anfield club are targeting a move for Belgium striker Divock Origi.  The 19-year-old has so far outshone Romelu Lukaku at the World Cup in Brazil and would provide the Reds with a player with many years ahead of him and plenty of time to improve.

Any deal would reportedly see Origi remain on loan at current club Lille next season where he could gain another year’s experience, including Champions League football, ahead of switching Ligue 1 for the Premier League.  Liverpool, though, are yet to agree a fee with the French club.

It is always risky buying players based on their performances in international tournaments, but there is no doubt the Reds would do their homework on Origi before deciding whether to pursue him.  Sometimes the risk is worth the return and this could well be the case with the young Belgian forward.
