Hummels And Shaw? What Manchester United's Back Four Could Look Like Next Season

With all four of Manchester United's back four out of contract this summer, with two already confirming their departure, here is what the United backline could look like next season.

    Right-back

United have a couple of options at right-back. Should Rafael stay at Old Trafford and steer clear of injuries then he would probably be my first choice, though Chris Smalling has also played there regularly and is a decent option.

Bacary Sagna could be an option though as he is leaving Arsenal, but I think I would stick with Rafael.

    Centre-Back

The first signing I would make this summer would be in this position, and I would be aiming for Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund. He is strong in the air, quick across the ground but exceptional at playing the ball out from the back.

He is always looking to bring the ball down and knock it to a team-mate, or carrying it out of the defensive areas.

    Centre-Back

I would have Phil Jones as the other centre-back as I believe he is the future of the club. He has sheer power, can read the game and his tackling is very impressive. Now is the time I would like to see him settle in one position - centre-back.

    Left-Back

With Patrice Evra leaving this summer I would go all out to secure a deal for Luke Shaw, who is remarkably still only 18. He's had two good seasons at Southampton, is going to the World Cup with England and would be a long term addition.

Smalling is hopeless at right back, and offers no threat at all when going forward in that position. When he plays at right back he makes us weak down that side, particularly in attack. To be honest I'd move him on to Arsenal if they're up for paying 10mil+ for him
