All Mouth? Do Mourinho's Mind Games Make Sense?

Many of us have questioned the so-called mind games employed by Jose Mourinho which begun way back in February when Chelsea came away from the Etihad with an unexpected 0-1 win. At the time, Manchester City had won 11 out of 11 at home in the league and had not failed to score at their own ground in a league match since November 2010.

However, Mourinho has repeatedly told the media that his side are not title favourites and even after last week’s superb 0-2 at Anfield, the Stamford Bridge boss is adamant that the trophy will be heading to either Liverpool or City. There definitely appears to be a great degree of substance to his claims given the news on 22-year-old Brazilian playmaker Oscar.

Oscar has recently been sidelined through injury and has stated it is best now he rests up for the World Cup, although treatment he is receiving may enable him to partake in Chelsea’s final Premier League game of the season.

Realistically the Chelsea manager and his players’ are not expecting to come away with the Premier League trophy. They require both Liverpool and City to drop points and it appears they will only risk Oscar should there be a dramatic turn of events at the top of the table.

Had Chelsea won on Wednesday night against Atletico Madrid, would Oscar’s attitude resemble the constant playing down tactics of his manager? On the other hand, maybe Chelsea have always truly believed that the Premier League title is just one step too far?
