Manchester City Linked With Barcelona Defender - Here's Why He'd Be Perfect For Pellegrini's Men

Many people’s favourites for the title Manchester City are supposedly looking to strike a deal with their Champions League conquerors Barcelona for the signature of right-back Dani Alves. Despite having the strongest squad in the Barclays Premier League, it is defensive deficiencies that have prevented Manuel Pelligrini’s men from sustaining a challenge on four different fronts this campaign.

Alves joined Barcelona in 2008 and has gone on to become one of the most consistent full-backs in the world. The Brazilian international has a flamboyant nature to his game and attacks at will when given the opportunity. This typifies both his club and country’s philosophy to the game.

City already have the best right-back in the league in Pablo Zabaleta who, in my view, is stronger defensively than the 30-year-old. However, Alves can arguably offer more going forward so he could also be utilised on the wing. Therefore should Alves make the move to the Etihad, he would provide cover for both Zabaleta and Jesus Nevas.

The signing of Alves along with a world class centre-half would add another dimension to a City squad that is perilously close to becoming the finished article. They are an out and out attacking team as is demonstrated by the vast amount of goals they have scored this season.

Their style of football would suit Alves down to a tee.
