Forget Costa: Why Chelsea MUST Build Attack Around Lukaku Next Season

According to Sky Sports, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has stated it would be great if Everton could keep hold of their on-loan players, but in my view Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho must ensure that Romelu Lukaku is playing in the blue of Chelsea next season.

Mourinho lamented last Wednesday that his team were "paying" for a lack of cutting edge after a 1-1 draw at Galatasaray. The away side’s inability to kill the game off once they had taken the lead could come back to haunt them and highlighted a significant problem they have had all season – the lack of a clinical finisher up top.

What makes this dilemma all the more perplexing is that Chelsea have their most prolific striker plying his trade at Goodison Park. Mourinho has stated many times that this is a long-term project he has taken on second time round at Stamford Bridge, which has seen many young stars such as Eden Hazard and Oscar flourish under the guidance of the ‘Special One.’

However he has certainly made a mistake in loaning out 20-year-old Lukaku, who now has ten goals in 20 league appearances for Everton, demonstrating that his seventeen goal haul playing for West Brom last season was not just a flash in the pan.

The Belgian international continues to establish himself as one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League and an impressive showing at the World Cup will only enhance his growing reputation. Chelsea and Mourinho must make sure they do not make the same mistake two seasons in a row and keep Lukaku at the Bridge.
