Arsenal Fans Should Still Be Worried Despite Inter Cooling Sagna Interest

Inter Milan have cooled talk linking them with a summer move for Bacary Sagna, with the club’s president revealing the Frenchman has decided to remain in the Premier League. Sagna, who is out of contract in the summer, has remained tight-lipped over his future plans but has been tipped by Betfair punters with possible moves to both Chelsea and Manchester City.

While Inter president Erick Thohir’s revelation that Sagna is set to stay in England, Arsenal fans are still not sure whether the right-back’s decision to stay in the Premier League is because he is staying at the Emirates or signing for one of the Gunners’ rivals – both options being heavily backed at Betfair.com.

Thohir did admit the Italian giants had been interested in signing the France international, but the Serie A club’s hopes of signing the 31-year-old appear to have been left dashed by Sagna’s decision to stay in England.

"I think (Bacary) Sagna won't arrive because he has decided to stay in the Premier League. Right now we only have (Yuto) Nagatomo and Jonathan. If one of them gets injured you need somebody else to come in,” admitted Thohir.

"But we have to accept the fact he (Sagna) wants to stay in England. We understand and in that case we might bring in a young player from our academy."

Despite Arsene Wenger remaining calm over Sagna’s contract issues, Arsenal fans are rightly concerned about the prospect of seeing one of their stars following the footsteps of Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy in making the move to Manchester City after reportedly being offered a bumper three-year contract.

According to the Betfair odds, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are also monitoring the full back’s situation with a keen eye, and a move to Stamford Bridge would be tempting for a player entering the twilight of his career and looking to win trophies – something which Arsenal continue to spectacularly fail at doing.
