28 Goals, 10 Assists: Why Liverpool Boss Is Right About Suarez Winning Player Of The Year

It wasn't just Chelsea that had a successful week. Liverpool also managed a massive 3-6 win over Cardiff City on Saturday, and then a 2-1 win over Sunderland last night.

The Reds have impressed me massively this season. It's always nice to see a team with great fans do so well after so many years of struggle. It's going to be a tight race to the title this season, and one that I think is going to eventually finish between Liverpool and Chelsea. The two have been unstoppable recently and it's going to be really interesting to see who will emerge victorious.

Skimming through articles lately I saw one that really got me thinking. According to espnfc.com, Brendan Rodgers has said that he believes Liverpool striker Luis Suarez should win the player of the year award this season.

My initial reaction was of agreement, though I immediately started thinking of other players that I thought deserved it more. Obviously Eden Hazard came to my mind, being a Chelsea fan. But then, I really started to think about it, and Suarez would certainly be a deserving winner.

When we think of the player of the year, we of course think who scored the most goals (which is actually Suarez as of right now). We do think about other factors as well, though.

Not only is Suarez the leading scorer in the Premier League on 28, but Liverpool have been doing exceptionally well this season as well. But the thing that I think that sets the former Ajax man apart from other candidates is how far he has come in the past year. Suarez also has 10 assists to his name.

It wasn't that long ago Suarez was suspended for the infamous bite of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Personally, I thought that nobody would be able to come back from a suspension like that. I assumed that his career was over. But no, Suarez came back a little after the start of this season, and he came back better than ever.

So not only is he the leading scorer in the topflight,  but he had to overcome so much adversity in order to get there, and for that I really admire him. It's one thing for a player to be extremely talented, but quite another to climb back from the bottom to get there.

He won back the respect of Liverpool fans, which is in itself an incredible feat. I myself completely hated Suarez last season; I honestly didn't care if his career was over or not. However, after this season I enjoy watching him play well again and totally agree with Brendan Rodgers.

Luis Suarez is totally deserving of the player of the year award and hopefully he gets it.
