Arsenal Need To Take A Serious Look At Their Medical Team - Here's Why

It's Arsenal's annual 'everyone is injured' stage of the season, when it seems like the injury list is longer than the list of those actually available. Unavailable to the Gunners are, Laurent Koscielny, who was recently added to the list, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Theo Walcott. On closer inspection, that's five first team players on the sidelines and one - Abou Diaby - the forever injured player.

Aaron Ramsey has been close to a comeback since before the international break as he was set to return against Tottenham Hotspur. However, he then suffered a set back and was due back against Chelsea. The Welshman then suffered yet another problem and was expected to be back in the squad for the Manchester City game.

According to the Independent, that isn't going to happen either, as he'll be out for another two weeks. Is this debacle genuinely because Ramsey keeps suffering new injuries, or are the medical staff constantly mis-diagnosing his injuries?

Say the latter is the reason, which is dauntingly possible, then the Arsenal medical staff is clearly not up to scratch and should be replaced as soon as possible. How can a player suffer three set backs in the space of as many weeks unless the staff have been over-optimistic about his return?

If that is the case then they have been slowly tearing away at the Arsenal fans as they keep expecting a star player to return to help boost their troublesome few weeks. With a top 4 finish looking increasingly unlikely and an FA Cup semi-final to contend, the fans are very highly strung and could snap at any time. With some, that's already the case.

Another point to make is that some players who would normally spend a week on the sidelines, have been facing up to a month or two. It's not only crushing the fans, but it is also having a mental effect on the players.

This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed either way.

Let's go to the root of the problem. Wenger uses players till they drop. remember when Vieira complained that players weren't horses? Wenger uses them up so bad that when they get injuries, they are major injuries. Wenger's idea of rotation is to bring in a second choice player when the first choice is injured. They're not good enough to be rotated yet when injuries occur to the first choice, suddenly they are good enough. Furthermore, the fact that Wenger buys from the bargain basement, a lot of these players languish in those baskets, usually due to their poor injury records. Wenger picks them up and hopes for the best. Diaby and Sanogo are two examples of this. People blame the tackle he received for his injury but he had a very poor injury record before coming to the premiership from Auxerre, go and research it. Lastly, you only have to take a look at Wenger's buys and they already look feeble, this is a man that used to buy gladiators, now he only buys based on nimbleness. You can't do that in the premiership, it's too much of a physical league for that. Can't blame the medical team entirely, the fault also lies in the types of players being bought and the manner in which they are abused.
