Manchester United In Talks For Premier League Defender - Why Fans Should Be Excited

Roberto Martinez favoured three at the back while in charge of Wigan during his stint at the DW, so when he made the switch to Everton those up in Merseyside wondered how it would affect them.

However, the Spaniard has reverted to a back four at Goodison, with Phil Jagielka and Slyvain Distin the central pairing and Leighton Baines on the left, but it has been right-back Seamus Coleman who has caught the eye.

So much so, in fact, that he is supposedly a target for Manchester United. The Mirror say that the Red Devils are in talks to sign the defender, but what could he offer?

First and foremost, the Irishman has scored six goals from the right-back area in the Premier League this season. He's also scored one in the cup.

He has thrived under Martinez's guidance and I feel he is a player who challenge in the Champions League. Although you could argue the Toffees have as much chance of that as United do.

Moyes has a problem at right-back. Chris Smalling isn't a natural and has looked out of sorts while Brazilian Rafael is out of contract this summer.

If the rumours are true, then United fans should be very excited.
