Why Manchester United Must Give Kagawa His Chance

David Moyes continues to overlook the attacking talents of Shinji Kagawa, which is startling given the lack of chances United have been creating in recent matches. The signing of Juan Mata and the emergence of Adnan Januzai has seen the Japanese midfielder fall well down the pecking order at Old Trafford. However, I think there is a way Moyes can combine the talents of all three of these players.

According to the Mirror, United are looking to send the 25-year-old back to the Westfalenstadion as part of a deal to secure the services of Marco Reus. However, it would make sense for the Scot to move Wayne Rooney up top as the main striker and retain the services of the Japanese star.

This would leave Kagawa and Mata to play just off of Rooney. Both Mata and Kagawa are hugely creative playmakers, but the latter is certainly more liable than the former to add goals from midfield. This was illustrated when in the 2011/12 campaign he found the net 17 times, whilst playing in the black and yellow of Borussia Dortmund.

His intelligent runs into the area will add another dimension to the United attack which at present is completely devoid of innovation and inspiration. There is no doubt that times are hard at Old Trafford so it makes sense for Moyes to put his faith in a technically gifted footballer who will soon be approaching the peak of his career.

What has he got to lose?
