Liverpool Keeper Should Be Looking For Move Away From Anfield - Here's Why

As the Premier League season reaches its conclusion, all players that were placed on season loans are looking forward to the prospects of returning to their home clubs. However this may not be the case for Liverpool Goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The Spaniard has spent this season on loan to Napoli having played 20 games for the Italian side. Reina has stated that he has not regretted his loan move but hasn’t made a clear indication as to whether he will return to the Merseyside club for next season or look for a move elsewhere. Currently Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has put his faith behind Simon Mingolet between the posts and he has shown to be a good fit since his move to the club last summer.

With Reina returning next season questions will be asked about his Liverpool future. Whilst it is all being kept rather quiet, a smart move for Reina would be to transfer out of Liverpool.

A team with a selection of two first team quality keeper’s always ends in frustration and disappointment. This has been exhibited with City’s Hart vs Given saga where both talented keepers where battling for game time when they could be first spot in another team. This has been more apparent this year within more teams as younger goalkeepers are starting to show their ability between the posts putting them in the manager’s favour.

With Liverpool’s current form in the league and Brendan Rodgers playing style suiting Simon Mingolet. Also Mingolet has proven time and time again to be Liverpool’s lifeline in many close games. By adding Reina into the mix could jeopardise Rodger’s tactics and strategy.

There is no questioning Reina’s ability as a goalkeeper but after moving away from the side for a season readjusting will take time. An expense Liverpool cannot afford if they are to continue to challenge for silverware.

If Reina was to leave Merseyside next season it will see him achieve more game time which is essential for any goalkeeper. Reina has always had strong ties with Barcelona having gone through their academy as a junior and rumours are always ramped about a return to his junior club. With Valdes dropping form this season a move to Barcelona would be perfect for Reina as he would be moving to a large European club with Champions League Football and the possibility of silverware.

Reina who has been a dedicated Liverpool player throughout his career at the club may have to put aside his feelings and think more about his future. For if he is to stay at Anfield it will only lead to bench time and frustration for the Spanish goalkeeper.
