Arsenal Linked With Premier League Defender - Here's Why Wenger Should Forget About Him

Bacary Sagna has been a fantastic servant to Arsenal for a number of years now and is currently enjoying a great season on the right side of a stable Arsenal defence. However, with his contract up in the summer of this year, Arsenal are trying desperately hard to tie Sagna down to a long term contract. But, it appears as though no progress has been made, despite ongoing talks, which has prompted Arsene Wenger to begin a search for a new right-back.

The Daily Mail have reported that Calum Chambers could be on Arsenal's wishlist as the 19-year-old Southampton defender has attracted admiration from the Saints hierarchy. However, I don't think that replacing Sagna with Chambers is the right move, even if the Saints full-back has a big future ahead of him.

Firstly, Arsenal already have a young and exciting prodigy in the shape of Hector Bellerin, who was at Watford on loan. He's young and proven to be an exciting talent that could push for first team action next season. Bellerin enjoyed his stint at Watford and put in a few very good peformances in that time.

You also can't forget that Carl Jenkinson is still looking for his big break and he's still young with a number of years ahead of him. Chambers would just become another right-back at Arsenal that could start if he put in a work on and off the pitch. Just like Bellerin and Jenkinson.

For Arsenal's current situation, losing Sagna and replacing him with an unproven youngster is very risky and it's a risk they shouldn't take. They, ideally, should replace the Frenchman with a player that has experience and will walk into the Arsenal side because of it. Sagna has been fantastic this season and Arsenal need a player that will have an immediate effect and is more likely to fill the rather big shoes that the Arsenal star will leave.

A move for Chambers could be the best thing the Gunners ever do but it's a risk, and they simply can't take it.
